my online adventure
It all started back in 2017 … my best friends and I were downtown enjoying a nice girl’s day lunch, when all of a sudden I had a thought. “I want to inspire people.” This thought was the beginning of a personal revolution. I had ideas of starting an Instagram account that focused strictly on the topics that I’m passionate about. These topics included positivity, mental health, self-care, faith, relationships, self-esteem, etc.
I would post quotes here and there to act as a reminder to others that they were not alone. I knew I wanted the account to consist of mainly quotes because I had personal experiences with the power of affirmations. Back when I was working through my personal issues and was trying to improve my self-esteem, I surrounded myself with positive affirmations and it worked. Before I knew it, my mindset about everything changed and I started believing the things that people had always told me.
So, I tried. After lunch that day, my best friends and I went home, created an Instagram account (formerly named “smilingwithsarah”) and began my adventure. Shortly after starting, I received such beautiful feedback from people I did and didn’t know. I knew I made the right decision. It made my heart so full to see how a simple act of posting quotes was able to brighten people’s days. I had a new purpose and that was an amazing thing to feel.
I found such love in sending out little reminders to those who needed it that it sparked another thought. “I want to start a blog”. Another epiphany was in the works. I was so passionate about motivating and inspiring others through posting pictures that I realized I could be talking about the topics I love even more if I got to write about them in depth. So from there, I taught myself the business of the online world. I found my niche after lots of soul searching, I learned how to design and set up a website and most importantly, I learned the importance of loving what you do.
As I continue to post pictures and write blog posts, I fall deeper in love with the idea that started it all. One simple thought at lunch started something that has been so remarkable. I’ve learned so much more than I ever thought I would have and I’ve discovered parts of myself I didn’t even know existed.
