I finally realized after a long time that I deserved better than how I was treating myself. At that point, there was nowhere to go but up. I surrounded myself with positive affirmations and learned coping strategies for dealing with my anxiety. But the most important lesson I taught myself was to focus on how I thought of myself instead of obsessing over the opinions of others. Although the self-love didn’t come over night, I started to feel happier with the person I was becoming. I learned that life isn’t perfect and there will be many bumps in the road, but those bumps are what help us grow. Without experiencing everything I did, I wouldn’t be the same person I am today. The person who focuses on the positives in life, the person who respects and loves herself and the person who embraces the bad because she knows there is a reason for everything.
I can confidently say that after everything I’ve been through, I love the person I’ve become and will continue to become. So if you take anything from my story, let it be that no matter what you’re going through, you will get through it. I know it sounds way easier said than done but after some time, growth and a mindset change, you will come out on top.
